The Global Specialty Lens Symposium is one of the leading international events dedicated to specialty contact lenses and advanced lens technologies. The symposium brings together researchers, manufacturers, clinicians, and technology providers to exchange knowledge and explore innovations shaping the future of specialty lens manufacturing.

This year, Rotlex participated in GSLS 2026 to present its optical metrology solutions designed to support accurate measurement and quality control throughout the specialty lens production process.

Measurement Quality Assurance Throughout the Manufacturing Process

At the Rotlex booth, visitors were introduced to the concept of measurement quality assurance across the entire manufacturing workflow.

The presentation highlighted how measurement technologies can support inspection and verification at multiple stages of production — from the initial lens material to the final finished lens.

Rotlex solutions are designed to assist manufacturers in maintaining consistent optical quality while improving reliability and efficiency in their inspection processes.

The booth presentation illustrated measurement applications for:

  • Lens material inspection

  • Lathe calibration and process control

  • Front and back surface measurement

  • Optical performance verification

  • Final lens inspection

This comprehensive approach reflects the growing demand for precise and reliable metrology solutions within specialty lens manufacturing.

Conversations with the Specialty Lens Community

GSLS also provided an excellent opportunity to engage with professionals from across the specialty lens industry.

Throughout the event, the Rotlex team held discussions with manufacturers and industry experts interested in improving quality assurance and inspection capabilities in their production environments.

These conversations highlighted the importance of accurate measurement technologies in ensuring the performance and consistency required in specialty lens production.

Looking Ahead

Participation in GSLS 2026 once again demonstrated the importance of collaboration and knowledge exchange within the specialty lens community.

Rotlex remains committed to supporting manufacturers with advanced metrology solutions that enable reliable quality control and precise measurement throughout the lens manufacturing process.

We would like to thank everyone who visited the Rotlex booth during GSLS 2026 and look forward to continuing the conversations started during the symposium

The Business Case for EDOF IOL Quality Control: When the Cost of Not Investing Exceeds the Investment

An EDOF intraocular lens sells for $400–$600. A monofocal sells for $50–$100. The $400 premium per lens is the entire financial justification for the EDOF product line-the R&D investment, the regulatory submission, the clinical studies, and the sales infrastructure all rest on the assumption that surgeons will consistently pay four to five times the monofocal price for extended range of vision.

Building EDOF Acceptance Criteria from Scratch: A Process Engineer’s Framework

The assignment arrives four months before launch. Define the through-focus acceptance criteria for the new EDOF IOL line. The process engineer opens ISO 11979-2 and finds power tolerance, MTF threshold at best focus, and model eye configurations. Everything needed for monofocal QC is there. Everything needed for EDOF-specific quality verification is not.
